Human sexuality is one of the most beautiful and precious gifts God has given to man and woman. We will explore what God has set out firmly for the purpose of sexuality and it's expression in Godly living.

We will see how the enemy distorts this gift in men and women, to continue his rebellion against God; and at the same time degrade and cheapen what is precious, and to pervert what is beautiful, into vice, filthiness and obscenities, with the destruction of innocence, purity and Godly ideals.

(Genesis 1:27 NIV) So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

God created us spiritual beings, with a soul in a body

(1 Thessalonians 5:23 NIV ) May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God said it was not good for a man to be alone.

(Genesis 2:18 NIV)  The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone".

God created woman to be man's helper.

(Genesis 2:18 NIV) ... I will make a helper suitable for him.

(Genesis 2:22 NIV)  Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

God gave man and woman the ability to reproduce.

(Genesis 1:28 NIV) God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

God's plan was for man to be in a primary relationship with himself as a source for all his needs and blessings. Out of that relationship would flow mans relationship with each other, living together under God's love.

God's ideal is that we are complete in Him and have no need not look for any other relationship.

(Deuteronomy  6:5 NIV)  Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

(Exodus 20:23 NIV)  Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold.

(Matthew 10:37 NIV)  "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me

Before looking at human sexuality as it is at present, we need to start and look at what God  intended , planned and commanded , when He placed man, the pinnacle of His creation to rule over all other living creatures.

Man is a spiritual being made in the likeness of God, but enclosed in a body of flesh.

(Genesis 1:28 NIV ) God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

We see from this scripture  God's command and purpose. Part of His creative plan was for procreation by man and woman who would give birth to similar creatures. Unlike the procreation of all other creatures, the procreation of man would be the birth of spiritual beings, inhabiting flesh.

(1 Thessalonians 5:23 NIV)  May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We see from the scripture above that Paul places the spirit in pre-eminence to the soul and body. Man is essentially a spiritual being in a body and having a soul. (mind, will and emotions) to express through the brain and senses, love, worship and praise to abba Father. (a loving daddy) God. God was to delight in this special relationship and  communion with mankind.

God made man as a spiritual being, having a soul and a body and also the capacity to physically procreate through sexual organs as in other  animals, but with a difference. At the time of  conception in man, the creative order of God specifies, and puts in place, a spirit being to occupy the developing body.  It is as the soul (mind will and emotions ) develop within the brain and the body develops that the personality becomes framed. Life as a person and an individual starts at conception.

The mind-set, in material or  flesh man turns this truth upside down. It elevates and promotes the flesh or material man, as the leading factor in man as a being, denying the spirit. The flesh man hijacks the mind, will and emotions from the spirits influence. In the spirit dwell man's conscience and intuition, which often are over ridden

Understanding these truth's is essential for a true discipleship walk with Jesus Christ, and understanding the truth he brings, to show us a true revelation of our Father God.

These truths are also essential in understanding Godly sexuality and the immense wickedness and dangers man places himself in, if he is involved in ungodly sex.

We will examine later the implications of this truth in matters of contraception and abortion, especially for disciples of Jesus Christ.

We will also see how sexual sin is directly opposed to what God has ordained and commanded. It is  a major weapon in Satan's armoury in carrying out his rebellion against God. We see many references in scripture that gives this warning. Beware!

What is marriage? It is a covenant before The Lord!

(Malachi 2:14 NIV)  You ask, "Why?" It is because the LORD is acting as the witness between you and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage covenant.

Without it being a covenant before God, marriage loses it essential ingredient sanctity, and is unstable and weak and will not last. We see this in society today when marriages are weakened by sexual sin, and just fall by the wayside

What is a covenant?        Is it the same as testament?

Both these words are interchangeable in the Bible. In the secular world we are more accustomed to using testament as a legal document, as part of the last Will and Testament, when somebody decrees what happens after death

In covenants we do not normally associate this with death as in a will, but it does involve sacrifice and death. In the marriage covenant  the couple individually lay down their own life for the other, ceasing to live just for him or her self. Everything the wife has is the husbands and everything the husband has is the wife's. It is a merger of two beings, not a partnership, with the Lordship of  Jesus in the centre. It is like the three stranded cord.

(Ecclesiastes  4:12 NIV)  Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

What is a contract?         This is a term used for marriage today

A wedding contract is not like a marriage covenant. They are almost opposites.

In a contract individuals seek protection for themselves and ask "what can I get from this relationship". Not  "what can I bring into this relationship" or  "How can I give of myself".  A contract can be broken but God has ordained the marriage covenant to be totally binding. Covenant only ends with the death of one of the parties.

The different  elements of a Christian marriage covenant

Ceremony  In front of witnesses solemn promises or vows are made before God. Both  promise to forsake all others and choose this marriage partner until death parts them. A covenant is made during this ceremony, bound by God's law  and the world's law.

Leaving and cleaving. It is essential that both sets of parents release their child into the new family unit the marriage brings. This release should be physically, emotionally and spiritually. In the ceremony the question is asked "Who gives this woman to be wed". The father of the bride replies "I do". It is essential that both sets of parents knowingly accept this for themselves, to protect the marriage by completely leaving go of the past. It reinforces too that priorities have changed for all and that husband/wife now take the number one place, previously the parents role and the parents role takes second place.

Marriage  Consummation  It is by the physical union of sexual intercourse that the marriage is consummated.

During sexual intercourse the man and the woman become one flesh. There is an intermingling of  spirit, soul (mind, emotions and will) when the two people become one by joining together in the sexual act of intercourse

The consummation of the marriage must be made by free will choice by both partners.

(Malachi 2:15 NIV)  Has not the LORD made them one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was seeking godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth

We see from the scripture in Malachi that in marriage the Lord has made them one  "In flesh and spirit they are His" This is the foundation of the marriage covenant before God and also the basis for understanding Godly sex, and sexuality as practised in the world.  The marriage of the man and woman must be of free will choice. They join together physically with an emotional, mental and spiritual bonding. In this act there is a touching of spirits which nurtures and builds up in comfort and well being. As we progress through this teaching we will  see and understand God's purpose in this spiritual bonding.

Paul clearly warns of the perils we will discuss in the teaching about casual sex and the multitude of ungodly sexual activities in the world.

(1 Corinthians 6:16 NIV)  Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh."

Because of how we have been discipled or have not been discipled many of us have poor understanding and set  ideas of should  what constitutes a real Christian Marriage before God. A Christian marriage involves three people, with the Jesus Christ as the Lord over man and wife.

It is a salutary sobering thought that He is Lord at the consummation of a marriage and in all sexual intercourse in the marriage. He is with us in spirit.

It has been said by others, that when it comes to intimate sex, many of us would put Jesus on the other side of the bedroom door. How many blessings do we miss by having such thoughts and fixed mind sets.

God created us as sexual beings and wants to be fully involved in our sexual expression in marriage. We will see later how God is actually worshipped when we offer our bodies in the highest act of which we are capable.

Man is an eternal being into which God breathed His spirit. We are made in God's image and we are the pinnacle of His creation.

It is in the sexual act, that procreation, the highest act of Creativity, can bring us into the closest  contact with our creator God.

Godly sexual  intercourse is in itself creative, because it feeds and nurtures the spirit. This nurture is creative because it brings about something that did not exist before-building and restoring . Praise be His Name.

(1  Corinthians 7:3 NIV)  The husband should fulfil his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.

(Hebrews 13:4 NIV)  Marriage should be honoured by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

The special ingredient in marriage is the sharing together of all things in common. This means that total commitment by man and wife to the physical needs of the other and the spiritual nurturing this brings.

Infidelity soils and ravages the relationship because the special spiritual bonding is ruptured and mutual trust, love and dependency is lost.
